Motor Parks: Court Affirms Ondo State Government Power To Set Up Park Management committee, Dismisses NURTW Case

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Akure, Ondo state capital has affirmed the legal authority of Ondo State Government to set up a committee to manage all public public Motor Parks in the state. The court also affirmed the right of  government to restrict the activities of NURTW in all the public motor parks across the state with a view  to preventing breakdown of law and order.

It will be recalled that Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN recently set up a park management Committee for the state and appointed Mr. Jacob Adebo popularly known as Idajo as the Chairman following an internal rangling bedeviling the union.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the Governor, NURTW and some of  it's members approached the National Industrial Court in Akure to contet the action of the Governor.

After deligent consideration of  submissions by both parties, the Court held that the state government  has the legal right to set up the Park Management Committee to manage Public Parks in the state and suspend the activities of NURTW in the park especially where the crisis of the Union affects the smooth operation of the park.

The Court further held that there is no law that empowers NURTW to take over or administer public park and Unionize all drivers. The trial Court thereafter dismissed the suit filed by the NURTW.
