Asake, The Perfect Replacement For Fireboy DML In YBNL??

The word on the streets is that Fireboy is going to leave his label, YBNL sooner rather than later.
There are rumors that the “Peru” singer could exit YBNL as soon as his third studio album is on the market. And, while it is just a rumor, for now, what would a YBNL without Fireboy look like? That’s been the question on everybody’s minds for months now.

While it took a long time to get a suitable replacement for Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold after they left in 2016, it looks like YBNL isn’t going to have that problem this time around.

Already, the new artist, Asake is beginning to set records and it’s looking like he might be destined for even greater things than what Fireboy was able to accomplish at YBNL.

He has released one EP, from which came two hit singles (“Omo Ope,” “Sungba”), and a remix to “Sungba” which is also a hit in its own right. All of those three songs have hit number one in Nigeria. And that says something, not just about his talent but about his commercial viability.

His single with DJ Spinall, “Palazzo” released last Friday finally reached Number one on Nigeria Apple Music, a big feat considering he released it at the same time as Burna Boy, Davido, Zinoleesky, and more. That’s a fourth straight number one for the boy within a space of four months!

That is to say, if he drops two new singles, he’ll instantly have two new hits. Asake is the new definition of “every single was a hit.”
